Spot Pet Insurance Plans vs. Trupanion Pet Insurance Plans
Accident-Only Plan Option
Spot Pet Insurance offers pet parents both Accident-Only and Accident and Illness plan options, so they can choose the plan that best fits the needs of their pet. Trupanion only offers Accident and Illness plans.
Multiple Annual Limit Plan Options for Accident & Illness Plans
Spot Pet Insurance offers pet parents multiple annual limit options for Accident and Illness plans; pet parents can choose between a plan with a $5,000, $10,000, or unlimited annual limit. Trupanion only offers an unlimited annual limit option for their plans.
Behavioural Issues and Alternative Therapies
Spot Pet Insurance accident & illness plans can cover up to $1,000 per year for eligible alternative therapies, including behavioural conditions. This coverage is included in our base accident and illness plans. Trupanion does not offer coverage for behavioural issues or alternative therapies in their base plans, but the coverage can be added to a plan for an additional cost.
Multiple Pet Discounts for 2+ Pets
At Spot Pet Insurance, our goal is to help pet parents get their pets the care they need. We offer a 5% multi-pet discount on both pets when 2 pets are enrolled, and a 10% multi-pet discount on all pets when 3 or more pets are enrolled. Trupanion does not offer multi-pet discounts.
Administrative Fee
When enrolling in a Trupanion plan, pet parents are charged a $35 admin fee at the time of enrollment. Spot Pet Insurance never charges pet parents a one-time admin fee at enrollment.
Conclusion
As you can see, Spot Pet Insurance and Trupanion plans are quite different from one another. Spot plans offer more flexibility with the ability to choose an Accident-Only plan, multiple annual limits options for accident and illness plans, and coverage for behavioural issues and alternative therapies available in a base plan option. Additionally, Spot's multi-pet discounts and lack of admin fees during enrollment can help make plans a more budget-friendly choice. Ultimately, the best pet insurance can depend on your pet's individual needs and your financial considerations.
