To remove loose fur and prevent tangles it’s advisable to brush them weekly. During Fall and Spring higher shedding is seen and daily brush-up is required to remove loose fur and bathing once or twice a month depending on how dirty the dog gets. Finnish Lapphunds should never be shaved! Despite the thickness of their fur, they do not overheat. not even in high temperatures. Their fur keeps them warm in cold weather.

Training

It’s ideal to train them from the very beginning it helps them with basic command and manners. Expose your puppy to other dogs and people, and various locations to help them boost their confidence and comfort. This breed prefers to be with their humans and doesn’t like being left alone it makes them anxious, extra training is required to make them comfortable while left alone for a longer period.

The Finnish Lapp Hund proved to be particularly adept in the role of a reindeer herder. They are friendly to strangers who show affection towards them and a good belly rub.
