Calico Cat Names

If you were an Indian, tri-color would mean a patriotic symbol for you, but for the rest of the world, tri-color is what a Calico Cat is. With their striking patches of orange, black, and white, they are like the living Picasso paintings of the cat universe. But looks are not the only thing they serve.

Historically, calico cats have been considered good luck charms in many cultures. The Japanese even have a famous calico cat figurine called the "Maneki-Neko," or beckoning cat, believed to bring good fortune and prosperity. Cats with Benefits!

If you were actually looking for names for a male Calico, then we must say that you’re holding a very rare cat there. Calicoes are almost exclusively female except under rare genetic conditions. The XXY combination is a genetic rarity that occasionally shows up in cats (people, too). And if both X chromosomes carry the calico blueprint, you're looking at one rare cat: a male calico. Only 1 in about 3000 male cats are calicoes.

What is the Name of a Tricolor Cat?

Calico is the name of the tricolor cat. A thing to note here is that this is not a breed we are talking about. Calico is referred only to as the coat color. This pattern can occur in almost all breeds of cats. However, Formal standards set by professional and show animal breeders limit the breeds among which they permit registration of cats with calico coloration; those breeds are the Manx cat, American Shorthair, Maine Coon, British Shorthair, Persian cat, Arabian Mau, Japanese Bobtail, Exotic Shorthair, Siberian, Turkish Van, Turkish Angora, and the Norwegian Forest cat. How Rare is a Female Calico Cat?

You may be shocked to know that female Calico cats are actually not that rare. They can be found all over the world. However, we humans cannot artificially breed Calico cats to increase their supply. The coloring happens only by chance. Among these Calicoes, if you are looking specifically for females, you won’t have much difficulty. Just pick one and place a bet, with a friend who is not very aware of the feline world, that the cat is female. There’s a 99.9% chance you’ll win.
